Rep. Jerry Nadler, a longstanding member of the U.S. Congress representing New York's 12th district, shared his perspectives on recent political developments through a series of tweets. Nadler has been an active voice in Congress since replacing Ted Weiss in 1992 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992.
On February 13, 2025, Rep. Nadler criticized the Republican budget proposal, stating that it "guts Medicaid, food assistance, and more—yet still adds a whopping $3.3 trillion to the deficit." He questioned the motivations behind these fiscal decisions, suggesting that Republicans prioritize "tax cuts for their ultra-rich donors" over concerns about the deficit or potential harm to "tens of millions of Americans." "The Republican budget guts Medicaid, food assistance, and more—yet still adds a whopping $3.3 trillion to the deficit."
In another tweet posted shortly after on February 13, Nadler outlined the Democratic Party's alternative approach to budgeting. He stated that Democrats are focused on "fighting back against this harmful budget," aiming to lower costs while protecting Social Security and Medicare. Additionally, he emphasized efforts to ensure billionaires contribute fairly while working towards reducing the deficit. "Democrats have a better way: We’re fighting back against this harmful budget and working to lower costs."
On February 14, Nadler addressed issues concerning transgender rights during a visit to Stonewall National Monument (@StonewallNPS). He condemned former President Trump's attempts to erase transgender individuals from history and expressed solidarity with the trans community by affirming their visibility and value. Nadler assured continued advocacy for their rights. "Today I went down to @StonewallNPS to call out Trump’s efforts to erase transgender people from history."
