New York Attorney General Letitia James has announced the availability of the Election Protection Hotline for the upcoming April 2, 2024 presidential primary election in New York. The hotline will be operational during the early voting period from March 23 to March 30, offering assistance to voters facing various issues related to casting their ballots.

In a statement, Attorney General James emphasized the importance of ensuring that every New Yorker can exercise their right to vote, stating, “The right to vote is the cornerstone of our democracy, and my office will always ensure every New Yorker is able to make their voice heard.”

Voters encountering election-related challenges are encouraged to reach out for support by calling the OAG hotline at (866) 390-2992 or submitting a complaint online. The hotline will be staffed by OAG attorneys and personnel, operating from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the early voting period and from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Primary Election Day.

Attorney General James highlighted the protections in place for New Yorkers, stating, “New Yorkers are protected from voter intimidation, deception, suppression, and obstruction under state and federal law.” The OAG has been operating the Election Protection Hotline since November 2012, responding to numerous complaints and taking legal action when necessary to safeguard voter rights.

All registered voters are entitled to accessible elections, with polling places required to be open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Primary Election Day. The OAG will address complaints related to any statutes it enforces, including the newly enacted New York Voting Rights Act.

The Election Day Hotline is managed by the Voting Rights Section, led by Section Chief Lindsay McKenzie and supported by a team of dedicated professionals. Attorney General James and her team are committed to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process for all New Yorkers.
