On June 30, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $77,614,098 in federal funding for Head Start programs in New York State. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and will be used to provide comprehensive early childhood education, health, and parent involvement services to low-income children and families.

“Head Start programs across New York State help better prepare our children to be active participants and leaders in our society,” said Senator Gillibrand. “These programs are vital to providing our communities with the day-to-day education and services that are required to ensure that all children, regardless of their socioeconomic background, can reach their full potential. I will continue working to ensure that these essential programs have the funding and resources they need to nurture our children and prepare them for their futures.”

Head Start provides comprehensive child development programs for low-income children from birth to age five, as well as support and services for their families. These programs primarily serve pregnant women, infants, and toddlers. The comprehensive services these programs offer include early education, health screenings, social and emotional health services, nutrition services, social services, and services for children with disabilities.
