On Sunday, June 5, 2022, a State Trooper’s marked patrol vehicle was struck on I-81 in the town of Cicero. The Trooper was out of the vehicle removing debris that was obstructing traffic in the center lane when his patrol vehicle was struck in the rear.  A motorist failed to see the patrol vehicle parked with its lights activated.

The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was issued traffic tickets for Speeding, and Failure to Exercise Due Care when Passing a Stopped Emergency Vehicle.  The Trooper was not injured in the crash.

The New York State Police would like to remind motorists to please remember to obey the Slow Down, Move Over law. When you see police vehicles, emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or any incident on the roadway, we ask that you slow down, and when it’s safe, move over to the other lane. These types of crashes are becoming more frequent and can be avoided if drivers slow down and move over to give us room to work safely.
