NYSP Wall of Honor - Today we remember Trooper Ronald J. Donahue
On May 23, 1959, Trooper Donahue, 23, was shot and killed near the hamlet of Bombay. Trooper Donahue was leaving the residence of a Town Justice with a prisoner when friends of the arrested subject interfered. One subject kicked the Trooper in the stomach and fled on foot. Trooper Donahue tackled him and was attempting to subdue the subject when he was shot with his own service revolver. The subject also shot Trooper Donahue's partner in the thigh. He returned fire and struck the subject in the forehead.
Trooper Donahue joined the Division of State Police on June 19, 1958 and was assigned to the Massena Station at the time of his death.
