ADIRONDACK CHAMBER OF COMMERCE: Nonprofit Brown Bag Lunch Chat on December 16

Bb

Adirondack Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement

Event:  Nonprofit Brown Bag Lunch Chat

When: December 16, 2020

The Adirondack Nonprofit Business Council (ANBC) invites you to another Nonprofit Brown Bag Lunch Chat. Join us for nonprofit updates and a special presentation by our guest speaker, Kathy Tolstrup of the Tri-County United Way.

Kathy will be reporting on the results of a community survey that the Tri-County United Way conducted. A little on the community survey:

The corona virus is impacting our community in unprecedented ways and is seriously affecting all of the core areas United Way targets to bring support and relief – education, health, financial security and basic needs.  Recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are projected to be long-term and delivering devastating blows to the ALICE contingent we seek to advocate and lift up.

Before the pandemic hit, 30% of Warren & Washington county households were led by workers unable to earn enough to cover the basics and save for unexpected crisis or a job loss. For many, the economic crisis has stripped available assets and abruptly repositioned families into unfamiliar financial positions.  Another 10% of households were already living at defined poverty levels.

It is imperative that Tri-County United Way and its partners focus on our communities most critical needs during this long recovery.  To that end, we conducted a COVID -19 Community Survey targeted to residents, local business leaders and their employees.  The survey sought information on a wide range of topics, including the most pressing concerns, job changes, childcare challenges and other economic changes local families are navigating.  As we think ahead to the next phase of recovery, knowing what will be needed most to help get families back on track will be critical.

Survey results from over 400 families are in and despite the dynamic challenges faced, local residents’ number one concern is contracting COVID-19.
