The New York Republican State Committee released a statement criticizing statements made by Zohran Mamdani, a candidate in the New York City mayoral race, during an interview with Politico.
The state committee expressed strong disagreement with Mamdani's comments regarding Israel. They accused him of being unable to "unequivocally support Israel’s right to defend itself" and criticized his endorsement of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. The committee also denounced his allegation that the United States is "subsidizing genocide," calling such comments "morally reprehensible."
Highlighting New York's significant Jewish community, the committee stressed the impact of Mamdani's remarks amid rising antisemitism. "Mamdani’s rhetoric adds fuel to the fire," they stated, referencing his affiliation with controversial figures known for antisemitic views.
Furthermore, the committee noted Mamdani's rising support in the polls and criticized prominent Democrats for not condemning his statements. "It's time Democrats show some moral courage, or admit that Mamdani’s dangerous extremism is no longer an outlier, but part of who they are," the statement read.
The committee urged Democratic leaders, including Governor Hochul and Senator Schumer, to address the issue.
