NYGOP Chair Ed Cox has expressed his concerns regarding the recent voting behavior of New York's Democratic House delegation. The majority voted against H.R. 9495, a bill intended to remove non-profit status from organizations that support terrorism.
Cox stated, "The majority of New York’s Democratic House delegation must answer for their votes against legislation to crack down on non-profits that provide material support to groups – including Hamas – designated by the U.S. government as supporting terrorism."
He emphasized the importance of revoking tax-exempt status for such groups, highlighting that only Representatives Torres, Ryan, Suozzi, and Meng supported the bill. According to Cox, "Voting to revoke tax exempt status for groups supporting terrorism should be a no-brainer, but apparently not for most New York Democrats."
Cox further criticized what he perceives as a pattern among Democrats of overlooking threats posed by terrorist organizations like Hamas. He pointed out the broader implications of this stance in relation to anti-Semitism both in New York and globally. "Every Democrat who voted against this bill should be asked to explain why they believe organizations that support terrorism deserve non-profit status," he concluded.
