House GOP Conference Chair Elise Stefanik has written an op-ed in Newsweek addressing former Governor Andrew Cuomo's recent activities as he attempts a political comeback. In the piece, Stefanik criticizes Cuomo's efforts to rewrite history and avoid responsibility for his actions during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Stefanik states, "In typical fashion for the disgraced Andrew Cuomo, the desperate former governor and his unemployed henchmen are doing a full PR campaign ahead of his testimony today in front of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic to try to rewrite history and avoid culpability."
She describes Cuomo's actions as "a slap in the face to all straight-talking New Yorkers," referring to newly released reports that allege Cuomo and his senior aides were responsible for a nursing home executive order that resulted in over 15,000 deaths among seniors. According to Stefanik, these actions were followed by attempts to cover up their responsibility.
"There is no question that Andrew Cuomo is responsible for the deaths of innocent nursing home seniors. He must be held accountable," Stefanik asserts.
As a senior congressional Republican from New York, Stefanik emphasizes her commitment to transparency and accountability on behalf of New Yorkers who lost loved ones in nursing homes. She highlights ongoing investigations by House Republicans into Cuomo’s handling of COVID-19, including the nursing home scandal and a controversial book deal.
"This investigation is critical for delivering justice to heartbroken families, many of whom I remain directly in touch with, and ensuring such a tragedy is never repeated," she writes. Stefanik concludes by reaffirming House Republicans' dedication to uncovering the truth as part of their promise made during the 2022 elections.
