Governor Kathy Hochul has issued a statement regarding the ongoing budget negotiations in New York. As reported on March 27, 2024, Governor Hochul has been actively engaged in discussions with the Legislature to shape a budget that prioritizes the needs of New Yorkers and ensures the financial stability of the State.

Governor Hochul expressed her commitment to crafting a budget that includes significant investments for the people of New York. She stated, "For weeks, I have been negotiating with the Legislature to craft a budget that makes record investments for New Yorkers while putting the State on a fiscally stable path into the future."

While progress has been made in the negotiations, Governor Hochul acknowledged the desire of many New Yorkers to spend the upcoming holiday weekend with their families. She said, "While I believe a final agreement is within reach, I recognize many New Yorkers would like to spend the holiday weekend with family and loved ones."

In light of this, Governor Hochul announced her decision to extend the budget deadline temporarily. She mentioned, "For that reason, I will be delivering a bill to the Legislature to temporarily extend the budget deadline until April 4th."

Governor Hochul expressed optimism about the collaborative efforts between her office and the Legislature in finalizing a budget that addresses key areas of concern. She emphasized, "Working together, I am confident we can deliver a budget that increases the housing supply, invests in schools and health care, and makes New York safer for all."
