Governor Hochul expressed her excitement about the economic development awards, stating, “My administration is spurring $5.2 billion in low-cost power investments across the State of New York – helping businesses thrive, and creating and maintaining jobs for New Yorkers.” She emphasized the significance of these investments in advancing a clean energy future and positioning New York as a global hub for modern manufacturing.

The ReCharge NY program, which allocates low-cost power, will benefit various companies across different regions of New York. Governor Hochul highlighted fairlife's $650 million investment in a manufacturing facility in Monroe County, expected to create up to 250 jobs, as a notable project supported by the program. Additionally, GlobalFoundries received a 15 MW power allocation to expand its manufacturing site in Saratoga County, contributing to a significant capacity increase to meet the rising demand for chips.

The Governor's commitment to economic growth was further demonstrated through the low-cost Niagara hydropower allocations to Buffalo Games and Mayer Brothers in Western New York. Buffalo Games' expansion project, supported by the NYPA board, is set to create 95 jobs and increase jigsaw puzzle production by over six million units annually. Similarly, Mayer Brothers' expansion project, with a 210-kW Niagara hydropower allocation, will support nearly 300 jobs, including six newly created positions.

Moreover, the NYPA board approved over $1 million in funding awards from the Western New York Power Proceeds Fund to the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center and Irish Welding. The Niagara Arts & Cultural Center received $1 million for a restoration project, while Irish Welding was granted $87,000 for a new water line construction. These initiatives aim to support local businesses and organizations, contributing to job creation and community development.

State officials, including Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Hope Knight and State Senators Tim Kennedy, Rob Ortt, and Patrick Gallivan, acknowledged the importance of these investments in fostering economic growth and supporting workforce development in New York State. Assemblymember Angelo Morinello also expressed gratitude for the support provided to the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center, emphasizing the preservation of historic buildings and promotion of the arts.

The article highlighted the ongoing efforts in New York State to advance a comprehensive climate agenda, aiming for a zero-emission electricity sector by 2040 and economywide carbon neutrality by mid-century. With significant investments in clean energy initiatives and partnerships with various communities, New York is making strides towards a sustainable future.

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) plays a pivotal role in these initiatives, operating as the largest state public power organization in the nation. With a focus on clean renewable hydropower and strategic investments, NYPA continues to support economic development and environmental sustainability across the state.
