Governor Kathy Hochul issued a statement on March 23, 2024, providing an update on the storm impact in New York State. Hochul stated, "For the last 48 hours, my team has been monitoring the storm system that brought rain and flooding to downstate areas and ice and snow to upstate areas, particularly in the Capital Region. We have more than 6,000 utility workers in the state working to restore power." She highlighted the efforts being made to address the aftermath of the storm.
While acknowledging that the worst of the storm has passed, Hochul mentioned, "We are closely tracking 80,000 power outages statewide — with a majority concentrated in the Capital Region." The Governor assured that measures are being taken to address the widespread power outages and restore services promptly.
Hochul also shared, "At my direction, State emergency response officials are in constant contact with impacted counties and utility companies, especially National Grid, which has informed us that most outages will be restored later tonight." This coordination aims to expedite the restoration process and ensure the safety and well-being of affected residents.
As the cleanup efforts continue, Governor Hochul urged all New Yorkers to prioritize safety, stating, "We urge all New Yorkers to take precautions: stay off the roads, don’t crowd the plow and avoid downed power lines." The Governor's message emphasizes the importance of caution and preparedness in the aftermath of the storm.
