Lee Zeldin, in a recent opinion piece in The New York Post, highlighted the deteriorating state of New York City, attributing it to what he described as failed far-left policies. Zeldin expressed, "Americans from all walks of life agree upon one hard truth: New York City isn’t what it used to be." He further emphasized, "It’s become the epitome of failed far-left policies pushing residents to flee every day."
Zeldin pointed out specific instances of crime and violence plaguing the city, stating, "In Times Square, two NYPD officers were beaten by a group of criminal aliens who were released from jail with no bail." He also noted the alarming situation in the subways, remarking, "Our subways have turned into an underground-crime system where innocent people commuting to work fear getting randomly pushed into oncoming trains." Additionally, Zeldin highlighted the concerning trend of women being attacked in broad daylight, stating, "And let’s not forget the countless women sucker punched lately in broad daylight."
Furthermore, Zeldin raised concerns about the impact of poverty on children in New York City, stating, "Too many children remain trapped in the cycle of multigenerational poverty, stuck in poorly performing public schools."
Zeldin's op-ed in The New York Post underscored the urgent need for addressing the escalating crime and social issues in the city, contrasting with what he perceived as misplaced priorities.
