After receiving several reactions on his plans for Thanksgiving, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo reversed his course.
Cuomo had initially intended to celebrate Thanksgiving with his two daughters and mother — who are not living with him — until he was called out.
“The current plan is my mom is going to come up and two of my girls, (that’s) the current plan,” Cuomo said on WAMC-FM, the Daily Caller reported. “But the plans change, but that’s my plan. But I’m going to work — I have a lot of work to do between now and Thanksgiving.”
Republican Elise Stefanik said Cuomo was arrogant and a hypocrite.
"This is one of the many reasons why Cuomo is the WORST Governor in America. His arrogance and hypocrisy knows no bounds,” Stefanik wrote on Twitter. “Do as I say, not as I do. Rules for thee, but not for me. Family for me, but none for you. A despised, hypocritical, tyrannical, hubris-laden Governor."
Noting that Cuomo is contradicting his own advice, CNN reporter, Jerry Diamond also had this to say on his Twitter: “So first Gov. Cuomo urges people (wisely!) to limit Thanksgiving to people in their household, Diamond said. "Now he invites his elderly mother & daughters over??"
Richard Azzopardi, Cuomo’s spokesman later on told the Daily Caller News Foundation that “given the current circumstances with COVID, he will have to work through Thanksgiving and will not be seeing them.”
The governor had earlier advised New Yorkers to avoid gatherings and not travel.
"This year, if you love someone, it is smarter and better to stay away. As hard as that is to say and hear, because if I had to predict, you're going to see a significant spike post-Thanksgiving."
