United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, and Ricky J. Patel, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), have issued a statement regarding the verdict in U.S. v. Sean Combs.
“Sex crimes deeply scar victims, and the disturbing reality is that sex crimes are all too present in many aspects of our society,” they stated. They emphasized the severe impact on victims who endure significant physical and mental abuse, resulting in lasting trauma. “New Yorkers and all Americans want this scourge stopped and perpetrators brought to justice.”
The statement highlighted the importance of victims coming forward to share their experiences, acknowledging the challenges they face. The officials noted their commitment to a victim-centered approach in investigating and prosecuting such cases.
They recognized the efforts of the SDNY’s Civil Rights Unit and HSI’s dedication to combating human trafficking. Appreciation was extended to various teams including Special Agents from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York, Digital Forensic Unit, Complex Analytics and Social Media Enhancement (CASE) Team at the New York/New Jersey High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, as well as partners at NYPD for their assistance.
