The Syracuse men’s rowing team announced on May 14 that it will compete with four eights at the IRA Eastern Sprints, scheduled for Sunday, May 17, at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts. Races are set to begin in the morning.
The event is significant as it brings together top collegiate rowing teams to compete for spots in the finals based on their performance in preliminary heats. Fans who cannot attend in person have the option to watch live coverage through Overnght, a subscription-based streaming service, and can follow live results online.
According to the schedule released by Syracuse, racing begins with the Orange’s entry in the Fourth Varsity Eight (4V8) at 8 a.m., where they will compete from lane 3 against Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, Northeastern and Columbia. The top three finishers from each heat will advance to the final round. The Varsity Eight (1V8) race follows at 8:40 a.m., also from lane 3, with Syracuse facing Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell and Holy Cross. This heat is expected to be highly competitive among participating crews.
Later races include Syracuse’s Second Varsity Eight (2V8), which takes place at 10 a.m. from lane 1 against Dartmouth, Cornell, Boston University and Georgetown—all teams that Syracuse has raced earlier this season. The Third Varsity Eight (3V8) closes out Syracuse’s morning schedule at 10:10 a.m., competing from lane 2 against Harvard, Northeastern, Navy and Holy Cross.
For all events except the Fourth Varsity Eight race, only the top two finishers from each heat will qualify for afternoon finals. Finals are scheduled to start at 1 p.m., with lane assignments and full fields determined by results of morning heats.
As anticipation builds for Sunday’s competition lineup and potential advancement into afternoon finals rounds remains uncertain until after heats conclude.
