NFIB State Director Ashley Ranslow recently conducted a virtual event in collaboration with Littler Law to assist small business owners in understanding and complying with updated New York state labor policies. The session aimed to address the challenges small businesses face in keeping up with labor law changes, especially those without dedicated legal or HR departments.
The event covered various topics crucial for small business compliance, including minimum wage increases, paid prenatal leave, and the Retail Workers Safety Act. It also addressed new requirements such as NYS paid breaks for breastfeeding and FLSA lactation mandates, along with the Clean Slate Act and New York Public Work Contractor Registration. Additional subjects included amendments to the City Human Rights Law effective May 11, 2024, regulations on height and weight discrimination in employment and housing, COVID paid sick leave expiration on July 31, 2025, and an expansion of the statute of limitations under the State Constitution-Equal Rights Amendment Human Rights Law to three years.
Michael Paglialonga served as the guest speaker. He is known for his expertise in labor and employment law. His experience includes working at the New York State Department of Labor where he contributed to drafting amendments to New York Labor Law and other employment regulations.
