The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), representing over 11,000 members in New York, responded to Governor Kathy Hochul's 2025 State of the State Address. Ashley Ranslow, NFIB New York State Director, commented on the Governor's proposal to reduce personal income taxes.
"The Governor’s proposal to cut personal income taxes is welcome news, as many small businesses pay their taxes through personal income tax," said Ranslow. "NFIB is hopeful this tax cut will benefit small business owners, but more needs to be done."
Ranslow emphasized the challenges faced by small businesses in New York due to the state's tax and regulatory environment. "Small businesses are the engines that drive the economy, and they have struggled to survive in the Empire State," she stated. She further explained that high costs impact prices, job creation, and economic growth.
Ranslow called for additional measures to address various issues affecting small businesses: "To make New York more affordable, the state needs to tackle high Unemployment Insurance taxes, costly lawsuits, rising utility bills, and overregulation."
The NFIB has been advocating for small business interests for over 80 years across all states and at the federal level. More information about their efforts can be found on their website.
