New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on April 9
Being a home doesn't have to mean the end of your workout routine. There's plenty of exercises you can do from the comfort of your home. Here are some tips to continue your fitness goals indoors.
Tip #1. Make SMART goals
Having SMART goals means that you’re not just reaching your goals but have a way to track your successes. Make your goals Specific. What do you want to achieve? Make them Measurable. How many miles do you want to run? You'll also want your goals to be achievable. Make them realistic to you and have a timeline or deadline. These actions make sure your goals are the right kind of goals.
Tip #2. Create a routine -- and stick to it
Developing a routine keeps you on track to stay fit. Adding daily exercise gets you moving in a productive way. Together with a routine, exercise brings down stress and give you something to look forward to.
Tip #3. Try new food

Tip #4. Drink plenty of water
Plants aren’t the only thing around the house that need a constant water supply. Drink plenty of water and stay refreshed as spring comes around.
Tip #5. Take breaks
Don’t push too hard beyond your limits! Take breaks every now and then and let your body rest. While exercising has many benefits, it’s important to give your muscles a break. Prevent injuries and overextending yourself by taking a day off. Try meditating or curling up with your pets.
Tip #6. Make it a group activity
You can exercise with your family or video call friends to motivate each other. Exercising in a group helps your mental health and brings you closer to those around you. Try taking a walk and smiling at other people. You'll be surprised at how much your mood can improve.
Tip #7. Find what fits
One exercise does not fit all. Many gym instructors are offering online resources to help you stay fit at home. YouTube is another place to find the exercise routine for you. Stone Wave Yoga, for example, has daily online sessions you can join.
Tip #8. Track your progress
Keep track of how you’re doing as you exercise. Measure your how long you ran for, how many sit ups you did, or how long you exercised for the day. You’ll be amazed how a little more each day adds up fast.
Tip #9. Mix it up
Don’t just repeat the same motions over and over. Try doing a new exercise every now and then. It not only keeps things fun but you also workout different muscle groups. You’ll get more excited about exercising if you spice things up.
Tip #10. Don’t forget to cooldown!
Letting your muscles relax after a good workout is important. Cooling down after exercising prevents blood pressure from dropping too fast and brings down breathing rates which helps avoid dizziness. Not to mention it can help increase your flexibility.
Exercising can break the monotony of staying at home. So follow our tips and stay active.
