The St. John’s baseball team clinched a share of the BIG EAST Regular Championship on May 16 after defeating Butler at Jack Kaiser Stadium, securing the program’s 10th regular season title.

This achievement sets a league record for St. John’s, with its 10 titles placing it four ahead of UConn, which has six. It marks the first time since 2018 that the Red Storm has claimed the regular season crown.

St. John’s finished in a three-way tie at the top of the BIG EAST standings alongside UConn and Xavier, each posting a conference record of 15-6. Due to their head-to-head performance this season—going 4-2 against both UConn and Xavier—the Red Storm will enter next week’s BIG EAST Tournament as the top seed. The team also won all seven of its conference series this year, repeating a feat last accomplished in 2018, and heads into postseason play with an overall record of 30-24 after winning 29 out of its last 43 games.

The upcoming BIG EAST Baseball Championship will be co-hosted by Xavier at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio from May 20 to May 23. The tournament features a four-team double-elimination format with all games available for streaming on ESPN+. St. John’s will open play as the number one seed against fourth-seeded Creighton on Wednesday afternoon; second-seeded UConn will face third-seeded Xavier later that evening.

Historically, St. John’s holds a strong presence in conference tournament play with an all-time record of 57-44 dating back to when BIG EAST baseball began in 1985. Since moving to Prasco Park in 2018, St. John’s has won two tournaments there and boasts another league record with ten total BIG EAST Tournament championships.
