Seneca County Sheriff Tim Thompson said on May 20 that deputies arrested James A. Hennigan, age 31, of Waterloo, New York, on May 18 at around 7:09 p.m. Hennigan faces multiple charges including felony driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, several counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, and various New York State vehicle and traffic violations.

The arrest followed a traffic accident complaint involving a single vehicle. According to Thompson, deputies determined that Hennigan was operating a 2018 GMC Acadia westbound on West River Road in the Town of Fayette when he left his lane of travel. The vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane before going into a ditch on the south side of the road and striking a road culvert at the T-intersection with Knight Road. Deputies observed significant front-end damage to the vehicle.

Thompson said Hennigan fled from the scene but was apprehended shortly afterward by deputies. During his apprehension, deputies found him in possession of several controlled substances and took him into custody.

Hennigan was transported to Seneca County Correctional Facility where he was held for CAP Court proceedings.

The sheriff’s office assigned case number CR# 26SH10694 to this incident.
