Representative Jerry Nadler, who has represented New York’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress since 1992 and previously served in the New York State Assembly, addressed recent actions by the Supreme Court and the Trump Administration on social media. Nadler, a Columbia University and Fordham University graduate born in New York City, shared his views regarding developments at the Department of Education.
On July 14, 2025, Nadler posted a link to an article without further comment (link).
Later that day, Nadler responded to a Supreme Court decision with the following statement: “Today’s Supreme Court decision allowing the Trump Administration to carry out mass firings at the Department of Education is an abdication of judicial responsibility, made worse by the fact that the Court issued its order without any explanation. The Constitution is unequivocal: https://t.co/eV37uGbIZb” (posted July 14, 2025).
In a subsequent post on July 14, Nadler elaborated on his concerns about the ruling’s impact: “Mass firings, shuttered civil rights offices, and the reassignment of essential programs to agencies lacking expertise are not reforms, they are an open, calculated attempt to destroy the Department of Education. Today’s ruling enables irreparable harm to millions of students”.
Nadler was born in New York City in 1947 and currently resides in Manhattan. He succeeded Ted Weiss as representative for New York’s 12th District and has maintained an active role in legislative affairs since entering Congress.
