U.S. Representative Jerry Nadler, who serves New York’s 12th district and has been a member of Congress since 1992, recently addressed several national policy issues on his social media account. In a series of posts dated December 16, 2025, Nadler commented on marijuana laws, Coast Guard policies regarding hate symbols, and health coverage concerns.
On the subject of marijuana legislation, Nadler stated: “My colleague is right, there is a deep injustice in how our outdated marijuana laws have been enforced. But rescheduling won’t end federal criminal penalties, won’t expunge records, and won’t free people still imprisoned solely for low-level marijuana offenses. If Chair Comer” (December 16, 2025).
Later that day, he criticized the U.S. Coast Guard’s recent approach to hate symbols: “After reversing this decision just a few weeks ago, and even physically coming to Capitol Hill to ensure that such a policy would not be implemented, the Coast Guard is now doubling down on classifying swastikas and nooses as merely ‘potentially divisive.’ Swastikas and nooses” (December 16, 2025).
In another post addressing healthcare policy decisions by Republican leadership in Congress, Nadler wrote: “After months of political gamesmanship and inaction, Speaker Johnson made Republicans’ true intentions unmistakably clear: they’re choosing to let premiums skyrocket and cause millions of Americans to lose their health coverage. This callous indifference to the real needs of” (December 16, 2025).
Nadler has represented New York’s 12th district in Congress since succeeding Ted Weiss in 1992. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 until his election to the House of Representatives. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 75, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
