Rep. Jerry Nadler, who represents New York’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on legislative actions and local achievements between January 8 and January 9, 2026.
On January 8, Nadler highlighted recent healthcare legislation passed by House Democrats. He stated, “Republicans let ACA tax credits expire and watched premiums rise, repeatedly refusing to act. Today, House Democrats led by @RepJeffries forced legislation to the floor and passed a 3-year extension to protect Americans from higher healthcare costs. The following day, Nadler congratulated the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) for receiving national recognition in transit security. On January 9 he wrote, “Congratulations to @MTA for receiving the TSA Gold Standard Award for Excellence in Transit Security. This near-perfect score reflects the hard work and dedication of the transit employees who keep the largest transit system in America running every day. With crime on the”.
Later that same day, Nadler addressed animal welfare issues with a new resolution regarding cat declawing practices. He posted, “New York was the first state to ban cat declawing—an effort spearheaded by my friend, @LindaBRosenthal. Today, I’m proud to introduce a resolution opposing the inhumane and unnecessary practice of elective cat declawing nationwide. https://t.co/dpJF3I7zkK”.
Nadler has served as a member of Congress since 1992 after succeeding Ted Weiss and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 1977 until his election to Congress. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 75, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
