Rep. Jerry Nadler, a longtime U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district, has publicly criticized former President Donald Trump’s recent attempt to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, calling the action unlawful and politically motivated.
On August 26, 2025, Nadler posted on his social media account: “Trump’s reckless firing of Fed Gov Lisa Cook is clearly unlawful. The Federal Reserve Act permits removal only for cause, serious misconduct, not partisan smears dressed up as ‘referrals’ from a hack like Ed Martin. The Supreme Court reaffirmed this protection just months ago.”
Later that day, Nadler further addressed the issue in another post: “Lisa Cook is doing the right thing by refusing to bow to Trump’s unlawful attempt to fire her. It should concern every American that Trump wants to take over the Fed so he can force it to cut rates and make his tax cuts for billionaires look like they don’t explode the deficit,” published on August 26, 2025.

Nadler’s remarks reference protections established under the Federal Reserve Act regarding the removal of Federal Reserve Governors and note recent affirmation of these protections by the Supreme Court.
Serving in Congress since 1992 after replacing Ted Weiss, Jerry Nadler has represented New York’s 12th district for over three decades. He previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University and Fordham University.
