Rep. Jerry Nadler, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district since 1992, has used his social media platform to criticize former President Donald Trump regarding the Gateway Project and recent comments about Michelle and Barack Obama.
On February 6, 2026, Nadler posted: “Six years ago, I proudly led the effort to impeach Donald Trump over his illegal scheme to extort Ukraine. Today, he is once again attempting to extend his extortion racket by smearing his name onto Penn Station while holding up billions in critical funding for the Gateway”.
Later that day, Nadler addressed Trump’s remarks about the Obamas in another post: “This is racism, plain and simple. Michelle and Barack Obama represent the best of our country. All this does is show who Trump is— a small minded, petty man unfit to represent this country.”
In a third tweet on February 6, Nadler warned of potential economic consequences if federal funds were not released for the Gateway Project: “If Trump doesn’t release congressionally approved Gateway Project funds today, it will be shovels down at 5pm. We could lose 95,000 jobs and nearly $20 billion in economic activity. This project is too important to our region and our nation to be delayed or terminated.”
The Gateway Project is a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving rail connections between New Jersey and New York City.
Nadler has been an active member of Congress since replacing Ted Weiss in 1992. Before joining Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
