Rep. Jerry Nadler, who represents New York’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, criticized former President Donald Trump’s handling of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during a recent government shutdown, according to statements posted on his official social media account.

On November 3, 2025, Nadler wrote: “As millions of Americans wondered how they would feed their families, Trump was partying with billionaires at Mar-a-Lago. Families are now going hungry not because the law required it, but because Trump chose it.

For more than a month, he lied about his ability to fund SNAP in https://t.co/xbb9l4wNoC“.

Later that same day, Nadler added: “It could take weeks just to send out partial SNAP payments because the Trump Administration never bothered to prepare a system earlier in the shutdown.

Trump has completely failed the American people. He had the authority, the resources, and every chance to prevent Americans https://t.co/hiJwQPGiXm“.

On November 4, 2025, Nadler continued his criticism by stating: “The truth finally comes out.

Trump isn’t “desperate for SNAP benefits to flow,” @SpeakerJohnson. He’s doing everything possible to block them.

He lied for a month about his authority to fund SNAP, and now he’s threatening to defy court orders requiring him to do so. https://t.co/qaoFS1wdOe https://t.co/RtKsHcJ8Bp”.

Jerry Nadler has represented New York’s 12th congressional district since 1992 after succeeding Ted Weiss and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 until joining Congress. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan, Nadler graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later earned a Juris Doctor from Fordham University.

These posts reflect ongoing debates over federal food assistance funding during periods of government shutdowns and highlight persistent partisan divisions over executive authority and social welfare programs.
