Rep. Jerry Nadler, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district since 1992, has used his social media platform to comment on recent national and local issues, including federal food policy, crime statistics in New York City, and the Breonna Taylor case.
On July 16, 2025, Nadler criticized the Trump Administration’s handling of food resources and cuts to nutrition assistance programs. He wrote: “It’s unconscionably cruel and stupid for the Trump Administration to burn enough food to feed 1.5 million children for a week. It’s even more appalling in the aftermath of Trump’s cruel reconciliation bill, which gutted SNAP by up to 30%—the deepest cuts in the program’s”.
The following day, July 17, Nadler addressed public safety concerns regarding New York City’s subway system. He stated: “It’s a fact: major crime on NYC’s subway is low and falling. I know it, and so does @SecDuffy. The numbers don’t lie: New York is the safest big city in America, and our transit system is the safest of any major city in the country.”
Later that same day, Nadler commented on developments related to Breonna Taylor’s death during a police raid in Louisville. He posted: “This recommendation is an immense travesty of justice that completely disregards the jury’s verdict. Breonna Taylor was murdered in her own home by officers of the Louisville Police Department executing a ‘no-knock’ search warrant. Her horrific death underscored the urgent need”.
Nadler has represented New York’s 12th district since succeeding Ted Weiss in Congress over three decades ago and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 until his election to Congress.[source] A lifelong resident of Manhattan born in 1947,[source] he holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).[source]
