Rep. Jerry Nadler, a longtime U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district, has taken to social media in recent days to criticize Trump administration policies and rhetoric on issues ranging from public assistance programs to healthcare and immigration.
On December 3, Nadler addressed federal involvement in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), stating: “There’s a reason no administration—Republican or Democrat—has ever tried to force states to hand over full SNAP rolls. SNAP is state-run, and state confidentiality laws keep the home addresses of domestic-violence survivors and other vulnerable families out of federal databases https://t.co/z6VtrfC98M”.
A day later, on December 4, he condemned former President Donald Trump’s remarks about Somali Americans and Representative Ilhan Omar: “It’s disgusting the President spews racist and vile attacks against Somali Americans and our colleague @Ilhan. Trump’s hateful attempt to demonize immigrants targets our neighbors and makes us all unsafe. I am proud to stand with immigrants today and everyday.”
On December 5, Nadler criticized a decision by the Department of Health and Human Services under Trump regarding hepatitis B vaccination for newborns: “Trump’s @HHSGov just abandoned universal hepatitis B vaccines for newborns, ignoring decades of data and warnings from pediatricians. This decision will result in thousands of preventable infections that have no cure. @SecKennedy and his handpicked extremists who voted for it https://t.co/5m1U6vwURr”.
Nadler has represented New York’s 12th district since replacing Ted Weiss in Congress in 1992. Prior to his congressional service, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 until his election to Congress.
He was born in New York City in 1947, resides in Manhattan, graduated from Columbia University with a BA in 1969, and earned a JD from Fordham University in 1978.
