Rep. Jerry Nadler, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district since 1992, used his social media platform on October 31, 2025, to address the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

In a post dated October 31, 2025 at 17:20 UTC, Nadler stated: “Today marks one month of the government shutdown. Tomorrow, 40 million Americans won’t receive November SNAP benefits. Trump has the funds and the authority to fully fund SNAP, but refuses to. He wants the country’s most vulnerable veterans, seniors, and children to starve for”.

Later that day at 18:17 UTC, Nadler posted another message containing only a pointing down emoji and a link: ” https://t.co/et8mDR3C14″.

At 19:11 UTC on the same day, Nadler commented further on federal actions regarding SNAP funding: “A federal court just rejected Trump’s blatant lie that he couldn’t keep funding SNAP. And you’re only three months removed from cutting nearly $200 billion from SNAP to fund permanent tax cuts for billionaires, then applauding yourselves for it. Maybe sit this one out. https://t.co/vl7rwImxyk”.

Nadler’s remarks come as debate continues over responsibility for maintaining essential nutrition assistance during the shutdown period. His comments reference recent judicial decisions about executive authority over program funding and highlight prior legislative actions affecting SNAP resources.

Serving in Congress since replacing Ted Weiss in 1992, Nadler has represented New York’s 12th District after previously serving in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
