Rep. Jerry Nadler, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district since 1992, posted a series of statements on May 20, 2026, addressing legislation affecting transgender students, the passing of former Congressman Barney Frank, and Amtrak’s handling of Penn Station redevelopment.
On May 20, 2026, Nadler criticized a bill introduced by Republicans regarding transgender students in schools. He wrote: “Republicans are bringing a hateful, anti-trans bill to the floor that would force educators to out transgender students and prohibit the teaching of any curriculum that recognizes the existence of transgender people. This bill is disgusting and I am proud to be vehemently against https://t.co/Et8VognNMk”.
Later that day, Nadler expressed condolences over the death of former Congressman Barney Frank. In his post he stated: “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend and former colleague, Congressman Barney Frank. Barney’s courage to come out as the first openly gay man in Congress inspired many, and his steadfast commitment to fighting for civil rights transformed the lives of”.
In another post on May 20, Nadler criticized Amtrak’s decision-making process regarding Penn Station’s future. He wrote: “Amtrak just handed a developer the future of Penn Station — the same way this administration does everything — in secret, without New Yorkers, and for the benefit of @realDonaldTrump’s political allies. Not a single public hearing. No consultation with the MTA or the State and”.
Nadler has represented New York’s 12th district in Congress since replacing Ted Weiss in 1992 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 75, Nadler graduated from Columbia University with a BA in 1969 and earned his JD from Fordham University in 1978.
