Rep. Jerry Nadler, who has represented New York’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress since 1992, posted on his Twitter account expressing concerns about recent actions involving the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and announcing legislative efforts related to marijuana legalization.

On August 28, 2025, Nadler criticized actions by former President Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., stating, “Trump and RFK Jr.’s attempt to fire their own appointed and Senate confirmed CDC Director is a direct attack on our nation’s public health and puts every American family at risk. Within hours of Dr. Susan Monarez’s ouster, at least four of the CDC’s most respected and”. The tweet was posted amid reports of leadership changes within the CDC.

The following day, on August 29, 2025, Nadler shared a post with only a link: “https://t.co/HoMe5ShOwb”.

On the same day, Nadler announced the reintroduction of major legislation: “I am proud to reintroduce the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act with @RepDinaTitus, @Ilhan, and @NydiaVelazquez today to legalize marijuana at the federal level and start to correct decades of injustices inflicted by the War on Drugs. As more states continue”.

Nadler has had a long career in public service. He succeeded Ted Weiss in representing New York’s 12th district in Congress after serving in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947, he continues to reside in Manhattan. He holds a BA from Columbia University (1969) and a JD from Fordham University (1978).
