Rep. Jerry Nadler, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district since 1992, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing actions by the Trump Administration and highlighting legislative achievements.
On January 22, 2026, Nadler publicly criticized a deportation plan: “I strongly condemn the Trump Administration’s plan to deport Mahmoud Khalil—a legal permanent resident—during his ongoing appeals process. Let’s be clear: free speech rights do not end where political disagreements begin. Regardless of his opinions on the Middle East, Mr.”
The following day, Nadler commented on federal-state relations under President Trump: “Once again, the Trump Administration is threatening to cut funding to states that don’t comply with the regime. Trump doesn’t actually care about combatting fraud, he cares about political retribution.” This post reflects ongoing tensions between some state governments and federal authorities over compliance issues.
Later that same day, Nadler expressed satisfaction with recent legislative progress: “I am proud the House passed full funding for my World Trade Center Health Program. As more and more survivors discover they have illnesses and diseases related to the 9/11 attacks, this funding will provide a stable path to help them get treated for the next decade and more.” The World Trade Center Health Program provides medical support for individuals affected by health conditions linked to the September 11 attacks.
Nadler has represented New York’s 12th District in Congress since replacing Ted Weiss in 1992. Prior to his congressional service, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1977 until joining Congress. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 75, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
