Rep. Jerry Nadler, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district since 1992, issued several statements on July 31, 2025, addressing issues ranging from congressional procedure to federal appointments and international aid.
On the morning of July 31, Nadler criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson for adjourning the House until September. In his tweet posted at 13:43 UTC, Nadler stated: “Last week, @SpeakerJohnson sent the House on recess until September to shield Trump from a vote on releasing the Epstein files, claiming Trump needed ‘space’ to figure out his next move. A week later, Trump is again dismissing the Epstein files as a ‘hoax.’ Enough. Speaker”.
Later that day at 14:55 UTC, Nadler urged the Senate to reject Andrea Lucas’s nomination to chair the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), referencing her record as Acting Chair. He also mentioned his own legislative work in support of workers’ rights: “I urge the Senate to reject Andrea Lucas’s nomination to chair the EEOC. As Acting Chair, she has failed to enforce core anti-discrimination laws and shown she won’t protect the rights of all workers. I authored the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act to ensure no one is forced to”.
In another statement posted at 18:38 UTC on July 31, Nadler announced his participation with Rep. Sean Casten and more than ninety colleagues in requesting an immediate investigation into former President Donald Trump’s Gaza Humanitarian Fund and an increase in aid deliveries: “I proudly joined @RepCasten and over 90 of my colleagues in demanding @SecRubio immediately investigate Trump’s Gaza Humanitarian Fund and surge aid into Gaza.”
Nadler has represented New York’s 12th district since replacing Ted Weiss in Congress in 1992 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 through that year. Born in New York City in 1947, he resides in Manhattan and holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
