Rep. Jerry Nadler, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district since 1992, has recently addressed several national issues on his social media account, including the treatment of detainees by ICE, Congressional transparency regarding the Epstein files, and economic impacts of Trump-era tariffs.
On July 22, 2025, Nadler highlighted the testimony of an individual named Rümeysa about her experience in immigration detention. He wrote: “Rümeysa’s firsthand account of her experience in an ICE detention center sheds much needed light on how ICE is treating people in their custody. I commend Rümeysa for her resilience and powerful essay.
ICE’s cruel and inhumane treatment of people in their custody, like Rümeysa,” (July 22, 2025).
The following day, Nadler criticized Speaker Johnson for delaying legislative proceedings related to the release of documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein. In his post he stated: “No, @SpeakerJohnson, the real mockery is shutting down the House until after Labor Day just to dodge a vote on releasing the Epstein files.
The American people deserve the truth. Release the files.” (July 23, 2025).
Later that same day, Nadler turned his attention to economic policy under former President Donald Trump. He commented: “Trump’s tariffs are taxes on working families, and now they’re dragging down the entire economy. Inflation is up, consumer spending is down, and economic growth is slowing.
The Trump Administration’s reckless trade policy is driving up costs, and Americans deserve better.” (July 23, 2025).
Nadler has served as a member of Congress since succeeding Ted Weiss in 1992 and previously held office in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 75, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD). His public statements reflect ongoing engagement with both local constituency concerns and broader national debates.
