Rep. Jerry Nadler, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 12th district since 1992, has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown and other political developments in early November 2025.

On November 5, 2025, Nadler highlighted the impact of the government closure, writing, “At day 36, today marks the longest government shutdown in history. ACA health care premiums are doubling and our most vulnerable are going hungry without SNAP benefits. @SpeakerJohnson and Republicans need to come to the negotiation table and end the shutdown now.”

Later that same day, Nadler continued his criticism of House leadership with another post: “It’s clear voters across the country are tired of Donald Trump’s shutdown. @SpeakerJohnson should listen and return to work in Washington to end what is now the longest shutdown in American history. It’s time to protect affordable health care and open the government.”

On November 6, 2025, Nadler turned his attention to former Speaker Nancy Pelosi: “Thank you, @SpeakerPelosi, for your dedicated service to our country. It has been an honor to work alongside the most consequential Speaker.”

Nadler’s remarks come as he continues a long career in public service; he has represented New York’s 12th District since replacing Ted Weiss in Congress in 1992 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1977 until his move to Congress. Born in New York City in 1947 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 75, Nadler holds degrees from Columbia University (BA) and Fordham University (JD).
