A recent poll has indicated a shift in political sentiment in New York, traditionally a Democratic stronghold. According to the GrayHouse poll, Governor Kathy Hochul’s approval rating stands at 36%, with 55% of registered voters expressing disapproval of her performance. This comes as Hochul prepares for re-election in 2026.

The same poll revealed that former President Donald Trump holds a higher approval rating than Hochul in New York, with 43% approving and 56% disapproving of his performance. A New York Republican political operative commented on these findings, stating, “Kathy Hochul’s numbers have imploded.”

The Daily Mail reported on the poll under the headline suggesting that New York is “swinging aggressively to the right.” Pollster Landon Wall noted, “There’s this energy and this desire for something counter to the one-party rule in New York that is separate from the Trump effect.”

Furthermore, the survey showed that 60% of voters believe it is “time for someone new,” including 75% of independents and even 34% of Democrats.
