The New York Republican Party (NYGOP) has issued a statement criticizing Representative Josh Riley for his recent comments regarding the government shutdown, referred to by the party as the “Schumer Shutdown.” The NYGOP accused Riley of attempting to shift blame onto utility companies for the difficulties faced by furloughed federal workers.

“Josh Riley is a liar and a demagogue. If he cared one ounce about federal workers not being paid, he would have voted to keep the government open, or called on Chuck Schumer to reopen the government – especially as funding for SNAP benefits has been halted thanks to Democrats. Instead, he makes wild accusations designed to distract from his and his party’s responsibility for the pain his constituents are feeling,” said NYGOP Spokesman David Laska.

Kathy Hochul has served as governor of New York since 2021 and is noted as the state’s first female governor. She is a member of the Democratic Party. More information about Governor Hochul can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathy_Hochul.
