New York Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox has criticized a recent plan by the New York City Council, claiming it will increase housing costs in the city. In a statement, Cox argued that the council’s proposal to allow certain nonprofits priority access to purchase distressed buildings would negatively affect investment and reduce housing options for renters.
“The City Council’s scheme to give politically connected nonprofits first dibs on distressed buildings will choke investment, delay sales for months, and shrink the housing supply. That means higher costs and fewer options for renters,” Cox said.
He also commented on Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani’s proposal for a rent freeze, stating: “The radical housing agenda, coupled with Zohran Mamdani’s rent freeze, is a one-two punch that will make housing scarcer and more expensive.”
Cox further linked Governor Kathy Hochul to these policies. “Make no mistake about it: Kathy Hochul enabled this madness and owns everything Zohran Mamdani does. New Yorkers will remember next November that she bent the knee to socialist radicals as they drove up the cost of housing.”
Governor Kathy Hochul has served as the 57th governor of New York since 2021. She is a member of the Democratic Party and is New York’s first female governor. More information about her background can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathy_Hochul.
