Several high-profile figures have recently participated in luxury real estate transactions in Miami-Dade County, according to a May 8 announcement. French banker Olivier Sarkozy, attorney Alex Spiro, and developer Ana Codina were among those buying and selling homes valued at $5 million or more.

These transactions reflect the continued strength of Miami’s luxury property market, attracting notable buyers and sellers from various professional backgrounds.

Property records show that Olivier Sarkozy purchased a non-waterfront home on North Bay Road for $5.2 million. The four-bedroom, four-bathroom house was sold by Jean Marie Echemendia and Andrew Kouri as trustees. Echemendia, a Douglas Elliman agent, served as the listing agent while Lucia Marin of One Sotheby’s International Realty represented Sarkozy. The property previously sold for $1.5 million in 2011.

In another transaction, Alex Spiro—a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan known for representing clients such as Elon Musk—sold his penthouse at Two Park Grove in Coconut Grove for $6.3 million to a trust. The condo measures approximately 2,600 square feet with three bedrooms and four bathrooms. Daniel Dougherty and Annie De La Rosa of Douglas Elliman were the listing agents for this sale.

Spiro is currently representing Musk regarding a lawsuit brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which has recently been settled with Musk’s trust agreeing to pay a $1.5 million civil penalty related to alleged securities law violations during his attempt to purchase Twitter (now X).

Additionally, developer Ana Codina sold her Coral Gables home at 5400 Banyan Trail for $7.7 million to an entity connected to Raysa Fanjul. The two-story residence spans about 6,800 square feet with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms on a one-acre lot; it was built in 2000. Ben Moss of Compass represented Codina while Raissa Herrara of Douglas Elliman represented the buyer.

The Fanjul family is well-known as owners of Domino Sugar through Alfonso Fanjul Jr., who is married to Raysa Fanjul.

Study finds wildfire smoke raises ozone levels and health risks in the U.S.

A new study led by Stony Brook University researchers shows that wildfire smoke increases ground-level ozone across much of the United States. This rise contributes to thousands of excess deaths annually—a risk previously underestimated due to focus on visible particulates rather than invisible gases.
