The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), representing over 11,000 members in New York, has expressed approval for the state’s newly proposed budget bills. Ashley Ranslow, NFIB New York State Director, shared the organization’s perspective on these developments.
Ranslow stated, “NFIB applauds the Governor and Assembly for agreeing to pay off New York’s $6 billion Unemployment Insurance debt, which has been dragging down Main Street for the last four years.” She emphasized that this decision would offer significant relief to small businesses across the state. The NFIB has been advocating for such measures since pandemic-related closures impacted small businesses.
Additionally, Ranslow highlighted another positive aspect of the budget: “NFIB also thanks the Governor for putting an end to the absurd multi-million-dollar frequency of pay lawsuits.” This change is expected to prevent many small businesses from closing due to litigation over bi-weekly employee payments instead of weekly ones.
Ranslow concluded by stating that while this budget represents progress in providing tax and litigation relief to small businesses, more actions are needed to support local enterprises effectively.
The NFIB has been advocating for small business interests for over 80 years at both national and state levels. As a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization founded in 1943, it continues its commitment to supporting independent business owners.
