State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball issued a statement on National Agriculture Day, emphasizing the significance of agriculture and the contributions of farmers in New York. “National Agriculture Day provides us all an important opportunity to pause and recognize all the hard-working people who are a part of this incredible industry,” he said. Ball highlighted the essential role that farmers play in feeding communities and supporting both the economy and lifestyle.

Ball expressed pride in New York’s diverse agricultural sector, noting its standing among the top producers nationwide for over 30 commodities. He cited examples such as plants, flowers, apples, grapes, cabbage, maple products, and dairy. The state benefits from access to water and land, rich soils, a leading land grant university system, and proximity to a major global marketplace.

The commissioner pointed out that New York agriculture is positioned for growth. He stated that efforts are underway at the state level to support the agricultural industry further by strengthening local food supply chains and ensuring long-term resilience.

Ball concluded by inviting reflection on National Agriculture Day regarding New York agriculture’s abundance and impact on daily life: “So today, on National Agriculture Day, I ask you to join me in reflecting on the abundance and impact of New York agriculture and the value it has in our everyday lives.”
