The New York State Bar Association announced on May 20 that it has signed a partnership agreement with the Lawyers Council of Thailand to promote academic and professional cooperation between lawyers in Thailand and the United States.
The agreement was formalized at a signing ceremony held on May 8 at the Lawyers Council of Thailand building in Bangkok. Thanapol Kongjiang, President of the Lawyers Council of Thailand, and Carlos Ramos-Mrosovsky, representing the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates on behalf of NYSBA President Kathleen Sweet, signed the Memorandum of Understanding.
“We connect with bar associations around the world to forge important alliances. The overarching theme of our affiliations is to promote, protect and defend the rule of law and to strengthen the legal profession,” said President Kathleen Sweet.
The purpose of this partnership is to foster relationships through joint legal education seminars and international legal research collaboration. John Frangos, a member of NYSBA’s International Section based in Bangkok, said: “As Thailand chapter chair, I will work with NYSBA and the Lawyers Council of Thailand to deepen our relationship.”
A statement from the Lawyers Council’s Facebook page read: “Both parties aspire to expand their cooperation to encompass social initiatives and the mutually beneficial exchange of academic materials, with the aim of fostering an efficient and sustainable network for legal services on an international level.”
The New York State Bar Association has partnerships with 39 bar and legal associations across six continents. It fosters cultural and social well-being through initiatives that promote equal access to justice, supports legislative efforts related to justice issues, advances its members’ professional success while upholding rule-of-law principles, uses its Albany-based Bar Center for administrative operations, includes members from all U.S. states as well as over 100 countries worldwide, and extends services broadly beyond New York according to its official website.
According to information provided by both organizations during this announcement period, The Lawyers Council Under Royal Patronage was established in 1985 with objectives including promoting law practice standards among Thai lawyers.
