The City of New Rochelle announced on May 18 a series of Memorial Day weekend ceremonies to honor members of the United States military who lost their lives in service. The events are open to residents and visitors, with commemorations planned for Sunday, May 24, and Monday, May 25.

The ceremonies aim to bring the community together in remembrance of fallen service members. Organizers encourage participation from local volunteers as part of efforts to preserve the memory and sacrifice of those who served.

On Sunday at 10:00 AM, community members are invited to Beechwood Cemetery for grave decoration activities presented by American Legion Post 8, VFW Post 439, the United Veterans Memorial and Patriotic Association, and the Three Five Oh Girls. Volunteers will help decorate veterans’ graves as a tribute.

Monday’s schedule includes a waterside ceremony at Hudson Park Sundeck at 9:30 AM led by the City’s Veterans Advisory Committee. Later that morning at 11:00 AM, American Legion Post 8 (112 North Avenue) will host a Memorial Day ceremony featuring keynote speaker U.S. Air Force Veteran Ms. Mel Boom from Three Five Oh Girls. A complimentary barbecue will follow for attendees. The Three Five Oh Girls will also present a World War II display for public viewing during this event.

City Hall will be closed on Memorial Day. Sanitation services will operate according to the holiday pickup schedule; summer collection hours begin May 26 with pickups starting at 6:00 AM.

The City urges all community members to attend these events as an opportunity “to remember and honor the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.”
