Rep. Jerry Nadler, a long-serving member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 12th district, has expressed his concerns on social media regarding recent legislative actions and initiatives. Nadler’s remarks come amid significant developments in health care legislation and gun control measures.
On May 14, 2025, Rep. Nadler voiced his alarm over a decision by House Republicans to advance a bill that he claims will strip health care from nearly 14 million Americans. He criticized the manner in which the bill was pushed through without proper understanding or consideration of its consequences. “It should concern every American that House Republicans are consciously voting to rip health care away from nearly 14 million people—and they don’t even know what will happen to them next.”
Later that day, Rep. Nadler announced his collaboration with Rep. Tim Kennedy on introducing the Aaron Salter Jr. Responsible Body Armor Possession Act. This legislative effort is named after Aaron Salter Jr., who died protecting others during a mass shooting at a Buffalo supermarket three years prior. “Today I joined @RepTimKennedy in introducing the Aaron Salter Jr. Responsible Body Armor Possession Act in honor of Aaron Salter Jr.”
In another post on May 14, Nadler reiterated his disapproval of the Republican-backed health care bill, accusing them of prioritizing tax cuts for billionaires over public welfare. He condemned their self-congratulatory behavior following the vote, suggesting it was inappropriate given the circumstances. “After months of lying to the American people about their intentions, the truth is finally out.”
Jerry Nadler has been serving in Congress since 1992 after succeeding Ted Weiss and has had a long political career beginning with his time in the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1992.
