The City of Mount Vernon announced on May 21 that the Pre-Prom Affair scheduled for today at Mount Vernon City Hall has been canceled because of inclement weather.

The cancellation affects students and families who planned to attend the event, which was intended as a celebration before prom. The city said, “We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We wish all prom-goers a fun, safe, and memorable evening as you celebrate this special milestone.”

Mount Vernon offers various municipal services through departments focused on planning, community development, recreation, urban renewal, and veteran assistance, according to the official website. The city also supports programs for seniors and veterans as part of its efforts to contribute to community welfare.

The city’s government features an elected mayor serving as chief executive along with a five-member city council. The Department of Recreation in Mount Vernon achieved official status in 1931, according to the official website.

While the Pre-Prom Affair will not take place this year due to weather conditions, officials encourage students to enjoy their prom celebrations safely.
