The City of Mount Vernon Veterans Service Agency announced on May 19 that it will host the 2026 Memorial Day Parade, inviting the community to honor those who have died in military service. The parade is scheduled for Monday, May 25, with a ceremony at 8:30 a.m. in front of City Hall and a step-off at 9:30 a.m., following a route from City Hall to Hartley Park.

The event aims to bring residents together in remembrance and gratitude for the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces. Organizers said, “Join us as we come together to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.” The parade will feature premier drumlines and marching bands from across Westchester County.

“Let us stand united in remembrance, gratitude, and respect for our fallen heroes,” organizers said.

Mount Vernon supports programs for seniors and veterans, contributing to community welfare, according to the official website. The city also offers municipal services through departments focused on planning, community development, recreation, urban renewal and veteran assistance. Mount Vernon features an elected mayor as chief executive and a five-member city council.

The Mount Vernon Department of Recreation achieved official status in 1931, according to the official website.

City officials encourage all residents to participate in this annual tradition honoring local heroes.
