Earlier today, Governor Kathy Hochul visited Middletown to tour the city’s completed projects that were funded through New York State’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). The DRI aims to help cities develop their downtown areas as economic, civic, and cultural centers.
In addition to the main DRI projects, Middletown finished 17 other projects as part of its Façade and Storefront Signage Improvement Program. This program received $1 million in funding from the DRI. Both sets of projects are intended to make downtown Middletown more active throughout the year and support local businesses and residents.
Governor Hochul stated, “Together, these projects further the State and City’s shared goal of creating a truly vibrant, year-round downtown that serves as the economic, civic and cultural center of the community.”
Photos from Governor Hochul’s tour are available on her Flickr page. Before-and-after photos showing changes from Middletown’s DRI projects can also be viewed online.
