Mather Hospital received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for the fourth consecutive year, according to a May 18 announcement. The hospital achieved the highest possible score based on data that evaluates outcomes, patient experience, and process.

The CMS five-star rating is significant because it helps consumers identify healthcare facilities by quality metrics such as mortality, safety of care, readmissions, patient experience, and timely and effective care. This recognition highlights Mather Hospital’s continued commitment to providing high-quality care to its patients.

“Achieving a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is a huge success in itself. To sustain that level of excellence for four years straight is a testament to our dedicated staff and their tireless devotion to provide the highest standard of care to each patient who walks through our doors,” said Mather Hospital President Kevin McGeachy.

In addition to Mather Hospital, six other Northwell hospitals—Glen Cove Hospital, Huntington Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, North Shore University Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut—also received five stars from CMS this year.

Mather Hospital is an accredited 249-bed non-profit community teaching hospital serving Suffolk County residents. The hospital has also been recognized with Magnet recognition three times by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and was rated high performing by U.S. News & World Report in two medical specialties: gastroenterology/GI surgery and pulmonology/lung surgery. Additionally, it was named one of America’s 250 best hospitals by Healthgrades from 2023 through 2026 and received Healthgrades’ Outstanding Patient Experience Award for six consecutive years.

Northwell Health operates Mather along with other hospitals in New York and Connecticut. Northwell is described as the largest not-for-profit health system in the Northeast with over 104,000 employees.
