NYGOP Chair Ed Cox has issued a statement regarding a lawsuit filed by business and trade groups against New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s climate law. The legal action targets what the plaintiffs describe as an excessive financial burden on New Yorkers due to the law.
Cox stated, “Once again, Kathy Hochul is driving up costs for New Yorkers. This ‘climate’ law forces an outrageous $75 billion in new fees, which will ultimately be paid by consumers and businesses, driving more productive citizens and businesses from our state.” He further expressed concerns about rising living expenses, including gas prices and heating bills, suggesting that the governor’s environmental policies could exacerbate these issues.
The lawsuit argues that the climate law is illegal and ill-conceived. Cox supports this view, stating, “The plaintiffs are right to call this law illegal and misguided: it’s a reckless overreach that prioritizes ideology over the economic well-being of our citizens.”
Cox criticized Governor Hochul’s approach to governance in New York, saying, “Under Kathy Hochul, New York continues to hemorrhage affordability, chasing away jobs and residents with every new burdensome tax and regulation.”
